Heading to Nashville for WordCamp US

On December 7-9, Mind Map Pro’s CEO, Rich Hill and Marketing Manager, Tess Coughlan-Allen will be attending WordCamp US (WCUS) at the Music City Center in the heart of Downtown Nashville.

WCUS is an annual WordPress industry event that rotates its host city every two years. It started in Philadelphia for 2015 & 2016, before moving to Nashville for 2017 & 2018.

The event tickets provide us with access to sessions during two conference days, an additional Contributor Day for contributing to WordPress, lunch each day, collectable swag, and all the coffee we can handle.

Co-working and coffee shops

Talking of coffee, whilst in Nashville, Rich and Tess will be getting work done and frequenting coffee shops and co-working spaces to enjoy the Nashville experience at the same time.

Luckily, WCUS organizers have shared the coolest coffee shops and co-working spaces in Nashville, so we know exactly where to head when we’re there.

Although neither Rich nor Tess is travelling with their families, one of the things we admire about WCUS is the fact it is an inclusive event with children welcome.

We recently partnered with The Change Canvas, a framework for improving diversity and inclusivity in tech, and we fully support steps to making events like WCUS a great experience for all.

Schedule

The WCUS schedule covers a variety of topics, with sessions ranging from front-end development to security policies, mobile to Gutenberg, as well as project management, product design, content creation and community talks.

The two conference days are rich with WordPress content and we can’t wait to soak it up. During WCUS, the Mind Map Pro development and testing teams will be in the final stages of preparing our new plugin for WordPress. Watch this space for an upcoming release announcement!

After Party

After the first conference day is over, we’ll be heading to the Adventure Science Center for the official WCUS After Party on Friday evening.

WCUS attendees will be filling out the building (wandering through the entire 44,000 square foot of it) and exploring interactive exhibits, admiring the latest exhibit presented by National Geographic – Earth Explorers, and experiencing the night sky in Sudekum Planetarium’s 63-foot dome.

We’re confident this impressive venue will contribute to an unforgettable After Party!

As we get closer to our trip, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite facts about Nashville, and since we’ll be there in December, we’ve added a festive twist!

Nashville, nicknamed the Music City, is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Tennessee and was founded on Christmas Eve in 1779.
Christmas lights were put up in RCA’s historic Studio B on Music Row to help Elvis get into the holiday spirit while recording a Christmas album. The studio, where Elvis recorded over 200 songs, is still hanging the same lights in there today.
Nashville’s Christmas Parade dates back to 1927, and it has been a favorite holiday tradition ever since, with more than 200,000 people in attendance each year.
